Procedure Info

The Surgeons Sturgeon is manufactured using surgical grade silicone and is latex free. It has been impregnated with barium sulphate to render it radiopaque ensuring its safety as a surgical aid.

The Surgeons Sturgeon is reusable and will withstand repeated sterilization by autoclave.

Features:

  • The Surgeons Sturgeon acts as a visceral guard and is introduced into the abdominal wound before closure.
  • It acts as a physical barrier between the peritoneum and the viscera.
  • The peritoneum and the posterior rectus sheath is closed superficial to the Surgeons Sturgeon.

We recommend the use of artery forceps to hold and withdraw the tail section of the Surgeons Sturgeon.

When the closure is almost complete, the Surgeons Sturgeon is withdrawn.

The anterior rectus sheath is then satured to complete closure of the fibroaponeurotic layers.

The Surgeons Sturgeon must be identified as an accountable item and added to the count sheet to avoid any risk of inadvertent retention.

Do not cut or perforate the Surgeons Sturgeon as its strength depends on it remaining intact.
